Prairie Pennies are also known as "scrip," which is a money substitute, such as a gift card. The PCUUC Prairie Pennies Scrip Program is a simple way to earn money for the congregation through everyday retail purchases. Every dollar you spend for scrip generates income for PCUUC based on the percentage offered by the company issuing the scrip.
Participating in the program is easy. Visit the Prairie Pennies page for full details.
The Short Story
The Stone Soup Auction and Dinner was a smashing success. Thank you to our entire community. Together we raised more than $10,000.
The Real Story
One day about 5 months ago, two weary fundraisers came to church.
The fundraisers talked to the church people and said "our bank account is low and we are planning for the next church year. Can you help?"
The church people were not sure of these odd looking fundraisers and their lofty goals….and so they stood back and thought about helping.
Meanwhile, the fundraisers set a kickoff meeting and invited the church people.
The kick off meeting was a site to see!
The restaurant lady came with her kitchen staff and her bakery crew.
She brought her dishwashers and the busboys and girls.
The tavern keepers came with their crew.
The church solicitor came with his wife.
The accountant showed up with all of his employees.
The minstrels and jesters showed up.
The news reporters and sign makers came.
The church craft lady came and so did the sound engineer and childcare lady.
Oh you would not believe this meeting!
The fundraisers explained their vision and laid out a plan.
And picked a date.
And asked for help.
And the most amazing thing happened.
The church became a very busy place.
People were working all around town, everyday to make the vision a reality. As the day approached, and the vision was coming together, the fundraisers began counting their helpers. They stopped when they reached the number sixty and realized that all of the church's people were doing something for their fundraiser.
It warmed their hearts and made them love the church even more.
On the day of the event, they set several tables and more than 20 chefs brought food to share.
The brew masters brought beer.
The town businesses and many of the church people brought items, services, and events to sell.
And together they feasted.
They feasted on food.
And friendship.
And the reality that together they had made a very special something out of nothing.
As the evening wound down and the soup pots were low, the accountants started to get excited. The cashboxes were full and the items and services were all gone.
And when they finished their work they were happy to report to the two weary fundraisers...
How a little church...
With a big dream...
Made more than $10, 000, shared more than 20 soups, and made memories that would carry them through the next year.
The fundraisers knew the people would remember, for some time to come, that all of the hard work and planning were worth. Their church was special.
And they all love it a great deal.
And they knew, for sure, they would share many more bowls of soup.
And work through periods of great fun as well as periods of great difficulty.
But they knew most of all, it would all work out because...
If everyone does a little, then no one would ever have to do a lot.
For they had shared stone soup.
They had experienced the potential of each other.
And their community as a whole.
They knew in their hearts their church would blossom and people would come from miles around to sit at the next table they set together.
Thank you to all of the church's people! Thank you to all of the church's young people. Emily Samson, Imani Griffin, Khaleel Griffin, Quinn McKenzie, Yasmeen Johnson, Jessica Immerman.
